Ok, ok. I must admit, for some reason I enjoy collecting corpses in Eve. It's fun to be able to say you've got the body to someone else in the game... as proof that you killed them. However, while corpses generally are proof that the person died, they are hardly proof of a successful kill on the person in possesion of them.
I'm sure corpses started out with a plan; Maybe corpses were intended to be used as a way to collect bounties, maybe they were just always intended to be something fun to collect as bragging rights, maybe they were just something of a joke by the developers. I can't say, I'm sure the developers know why.
However, with the new release of Kali coming out.. or Revelations, or whatever it's being called. With all the stuff I hear they're doing to cut down on lag, I tend to wounder if removing corpses could be added to the list?
I heard rumors about the possibility that with certain skills pilots will be able to remove the implants from a corps. Like they take the corpse into a doctor and pull out all the hardware or whatever. But here's the funny thing. While in Eve there is a captian's corps when a pod is destroyed, I tend to wounder where all the escape pods and corpses are for the dead crews of all the ships that get 'popped'!
Why do "Pod Pilots" leave corpses and not the crew? I'm sure your woundering where I'm going with this. Well, I think it's inconcivable that anyone would actually bother to search through space picking up all the corpses they find (real life like thinking.. if we flew in space and all) trying to find ones with good implants. I mean, ok there may be some lowest of the low... but what are the odds they're going to find the captain's corpse floating about? Who's to say the captain didn't burn up when his pop went down? Get his head blown through by a bullet the size of a freight train? Get blown to bits in the missile explosion that blew his pod!? And why is it the captains get pods (just cause they're "pod pilots"), but no one else ejects from the ships?
Granted, I think the real reason has to do with graphics, animations, artwork, and concepts for the game. However, one would think taht crews would at least attempt to evacuate the ships. At the very least their bio bits would be strewn about space until collected up by gravity.

So, despite 'fantasy logic', why remove corpses you might be asking?
I have seen corpses used to setup decloaking rings around gates. I've seen corpses dropped out into space in what aparently was to cause lag. Even when corpses aren't being dropped to cause lag, I have been known to collect corpses and then drop them myself when there is some good loot that I feel would be better suited taking up space in my hold.
Sure corpses vanish with downtime. However, during large battles where there are lots of pods being destroyed, corpses are just one more thing for the server and the clients to worry about processing. Also, when your in the middle of combat and a ship drops a bunch of corpses into space... corpses that they collected, that can cause alot of lag. Also, when you blow up a ship that has alot of corpses in it's hold, when the ship explodes all of those corpses are dropped into space, again causing lag.
So, with all these things I hear they're doing to remove lag: 0 Distance warping, Images in local reflectin the colors of your overview, and whatever else they're doing. I just have to ask, could corpses go with 'em?
So, the long and the short of it. I believe corpses as a whole should just be removed from the game. They serve no real purpose, and instead of giving them purpose remove them.
